Asya Fateyeva sets out to rethink the idea of the muse. She applies herself to asking what truly supplies the inspiration that a person needs to be active, to generate art. Is it perhaps the unattainable as such? Central to this approach is a musical tribute to the art of the troubadours. “The troubadours of medieval France sang of unrequited love,” says Fateyeva, “but more than that, they sang of l’amour de loin - love from afar.
Bertrand Plé’s interludes link the arrangements and orchestral works with one another, setting them in a free, aesthetically contemporary context. “We studied the texts of the original songs and tried to imagine what was going through their authors’ minds,” explains Asya Fateyeva. “What we do with it is highly abstract and a completely new episode. It’s not the tune that we regard as the big thing, it’s the atmosphere it radiates.”

Adolphe Sax, the Belgian, invented the saxophone in the 1840s. Not saying any rules are being broken, but find it interesting to interpret medieval music on a sax. It sounds great!
